Positive Reinforcement

Why do all dog trainers now use positive reinforcement? Because it works! Teaching dogs in a positive way helps them to fit into our world. Educating a dog from an early age can help to develop a confident dog who will show no anxiety based behaviours.

Research has shown that punishment based training has led to psychological problems and may have potentially dangerous consequences for the owners. What research has also shown is that positively teaching your dog what behaviours you do want them to demonstrate helps to build a positive relationship between owner and dog. Alongside positive training owners can use constructive discipline (the use of a vocal correction to interrupt an unwanted behaviour and instead refocusing your dog onto a more desired behaviour) to help your dog to understand which behaviours he is allowed and which he is not.

So to help build a good, positive relationship between you and your dog build it through co-operation and kindness rather than a dominance/submission relationship which was central to outdated dog training philosophy. This will ensure your dog trusts you and has confidence in you making a happier and more confident dog.
